JAVELIN | BURY ST EDMUNDS

The 'Basement' project at Javelin proved to be an exhilarating endeavor, filled with challenges at every turn. The architectural marvels from the 14th century, which are listed, added an extra layer of complexity. Collaborating closely with conservation officers was imperative to ensure the utmost care and preservation of this historic site.

The area was previously utilised as a storage room. We began by removing layers of plasterboards, pipes, and ceiling coverings to unveil the hidden treasures beneath. The building did not disappoint, showcasing beautiful arches and intricate architectural details. The conservation officers were thrilled with our decision to maintain the building's original features, keeping it as 'raw' as possible. The space provided the perfect ambiance for a 'Jeans cellar' and other menswear brands displayed in the basement. To complement the building's architecture, we opted for a limited color palette and materials, including copper, wood, glass, greys, and a pop of bright orange for a vibrant contrast. The final result was a hit with customers, who appreciate the unique atmosphere we've created.

«I had the pleasure of collaborating closely with Stéphane over a period lasting 20 years. We were looking to take our brand to the next level and Stéphane arrived just at the right time. He very quickly became my go to for all types of design. Javelin was a business that never stood still and I worked with Stéphane on multiple stores and projects. He would keep constantly afresh with the latest in retail design and marketing and always come up with schemes that would keep Javelin ahead of the game. His attention to detail and professional approach would be evident from the first time he would present a design, always using the latest graphic techniques. His designs are always creative and contain an element of surprise, which to my mind is essential when running an independent  retail fashion store.During the time working with Stéphane Javelin won multiple awards, including a Drapers National Award for Womenswear. We honestly could not have got Javelin to the level we did without Stéphane’s input and for that we will always be grateful and we are delighted to call him a friend. »
